GreeN PLUS

GreeN+ (檄)2014-02-26

maimai GreeN PLUS, released on February 26, 2014 and subtitled 檄 (geki, meaning "battle cry" or "manifesto"), saw a complete overhaul of the slide note system. Previously, slides were restricted to straight lines or simple circumferential arcs tracing the screen's edge. With this update, slides could now take on dramatically more varied curved shapes — including p, q, s, z, and v patterns — opening up far more creative and dynamic charting possibilities. Slide note judgment was also refined, with endpoint detection shifted slightly later to demand tighter precision. To complement this, the BREAK SOUND and SLIDE SOUND collections were introduced, giving players the ability to customize the audio feedback for break and slide notes. The genre folder structure received another rework: Touhou and niconico songs were separated into distinct folders, a new COLLABO genre was established for songs from collaboration events outside Sega, and select tracks were redistributed among the Variety, Game, and Original categories. Hold notes also received a subtle visual update — their endpoint markers changed from circular to hexagonal, making it easier to differentiate short staccato holds from ordinary tap notes at a glance.

Quality-of-life improvements included a revamped collection screen with faster switching between songs, icons, and titles, now accessible in any order. Rank announcements were enhanced so that grades A- and above now trigger spoken clear designations. The daily maiFriend maimile bonus display was consolidated to show collective totals from friends. A large-scale difficulty re-rating pass adjusted dozens of legacy charts, with many songs from the GAME and niconico categories seeing level bumps to better match their actual challenge. Two new ORIGINAL tracks were gated behind maimile purchases, establishing a model where premium original content could be unlocked through earned currency.
