CYCLES is a technopop track composed and arranged by Masayoshi Minoshima, best known as the founder of the doujin music circle Alstroemeria Records. Featuring lyrics by Haruka and vocals by frequent collaborator Mei Ayakura (綾倉盟), the song was released in April 2014 as a simultaneous tie-in between SEGA's digital real attraction HALFPIPE TOKYO at Tokyo Joypolis and maimai GreeN PLUS. The track pairs Ayakura's sweet, airy vocal delivery with a thick, growling synth bass, an intentionally unbalanced combination that gives CYCLES its memorable character. Lyrically, the song circles themes of memory, absence, and the passage of time, with the refrain "mawaru mawaru kisetsu no naka de" (round and round within the seasons) reinforcing the cyclical motif baked into the title. Within the maimai community, CYCLES is as notable for its chart design as for its music. The EXPERT chart, designed by mai-Star, uses Slide notes to physically trace the letters C-Y-C-L-E-S across the playfield, a visual gimmick that rewards attentive players. The Master chart, designed by はっぴー (Happy) and carrying a difficulty constant of 13.3, is dense with spinning slide chains that echo the song's lyrical emphasis on rotation. Masayoshi Minoshima himself remarked in a booklet comment that the chart "spins a lot," adding that while he could not clear it, he encouraged players to pursue the full combo. CYCLES has since crossed into CHUNITHM (debuting in CHUNITHM AMAZON) and Arcaea, cementing its place as one of the earlier maimai original tracks to see life beyond its home cabinet.
