Danza zandA is an original composition created exclusively for maimai by Mitsuharu Fukuyama (福山光晴), a trumpeter and composer at Sega Games and a member of the music unit [H.]. Though Fukuyama had contributed collaborative tracks to the series before, notably "ジングルベル" (Jingle Bell), Danza zandA marks his first solo original song written specifically for a maimai title. The track was commissioned for maimai GreeN PLUS, which launched on August 22, 2014, initially requiring 50,000 maimile (an in-game currency) to unlock. It later became purchasable with music tickets in maimai ORANGE, and was made available by default starting with ORANGE PLUS (March 2015). The song's in-game genre has shifted across versions, originally categorized as ORIGINAL, it was moved to ORIGINAL & JOYPOLIS during PiNK through FiNALE, then finally settled under the maimai genre label at でらっくす PLUS. The title "Danza zandA" blends the Spanish word danza ("dance") with a stylized suffix. According to Fukuyama's comment in the soundtrack booklet, the working title was originally "danza ardiente" (Spanish for "passionate dance"), but his supervisor Hiro (a key figure in maimai's sound direction) suggested the more visually striking "Danza zandA" instead, a purely aesthetic choice with no specific meaning. Musically, the piece is a bright, accessible jazz-house hybrid. Fukuyama was asked by Hiro to write "a jazz-style song" that is "fun and energetic," "easy to understand," and "with detailed melody lines." The horn section and drums were performed by professional session musicians who regularly support major J-POP artists, while Fukuyama himself plays flugelhorn on the A melody. At 129 BPM, the song carries a buoyant, swing-infused groove that stands out among maimai's original offerings from the GreeN era.
