PiNK

PiNK (桃)2015-12-09

maimai PiNK, released on December 9, 2015, introduced a major overhaul of the game's economy and user interface under the theme 桃. The existing dual-currency system of maimile and music tickets was consolidated into a single unified currency called MaiBerry, simplifying progression and song unlocks. The song selection flow was restructured to let players pick a category first, then a song, then a difficulty — with a new "Back" button to reselect. Difficulty levels were also refined: charts rated 7 through 11 received a "+" sub-designation for harder variants within the same level. The "mai CHALLENGE" mode was retired, with its dan plates made obtainable directly by achieving Rank S or above on all required songs. As a welcoming gesture, first-time players using a new Aime card were offered one free play.

Mechanically, PiNK expanded the note vocabulary with Break-attributed SLIDE stars and multi-endpoint SLIDE notes that fan out toward the finish, adding new layers of precision and dexterity to chart design. A new Challenge Track mode was added — a high-stakes gauntlet that forced a track to end early upon exceeding a threshold of Great-or-worse judgments, rewarding early song unlocks on successful clears. The ranking system was revised from the old D–SS scale to an F–SSS scale, introducing AAA and SSS tiers while removing the ± sub-grades on A and B. Visual and systemic housekeeping included a consolidation of song genre categories, the addition of an "Event Songs" category for time-limited collection events, and a large-scale purge of older name plates, frames, icons, and titles to reduce server load.
