言ノ葉遊戯 (Kotonoha Yu-Gi, "Wordplay Game") is Chapter 2, Episode 1 of the Kotonoha Project (言ノ葉Project), a story-driven song series by the prolific composer duo Hitoshizuku-P and Yama (ひとしずく×やま△). The track pairs vocalists S!N and Nana Takahashi (高橋菜々) in a theatrical, flirtatious duet delivered at a brisk 164 BPM. Its lyrics depict a woman who treats romantic conquest as a game, weaving wordplay and double meanings throughout, a theme the title itself mirrors by combining the poetic term 言の葉 (kotonoha, "words") with 遊戯 (yuugi, "game"). The song debuted in maimai at the launch of the PiNK edition on December 9, 2015, making it one of the earlier original commissions for the series. The maimai version runs 1:50, a shortened cut that omits the sixth through ninth lyrical sections present in the full release. A VOCALOID arrangement sung by Kagamine Rin and Len also exists, included on the Kotonoha Project soundtrack albums. Both the Expert (level 10+, constant 10.6) and Master (level 12+, constant 12.7) charts were designed by mai-Star and share a distinctive structural quirk: they contain zero Hold notes. With 425 and 570 total notes respectively, the charts rely entirely on Tap, Slide, and Break notes to drive the rhythm, a choice that gives the upper-difficulty play experience a particularly brisk, percussive feel uncommon among maimai tracks at these levels. The song has received multiple level adjustments over maimai versions, settling at its current difficulty ratings from the FESTiVAL update onward.
