Splash

maimai でらっくす Splash, known by the Chinese character 爽 ("refreshing"), released on September 17, 2020. It is the second major version of the maimai DX series and the 16th overall. The defining "shuwa-shuwa" (bubbly, soda-sparkling) theme permeates the visual identity and the new opening area, Shuwa Shuwa Chiho. Splash overhauled the Area unlock system, switching distance measurement from meters to kilometers and introducing Task Tracks — mandatory songs requiring an 80%+ clear to progress — and Perfect Challenges, life-bar-gated final boss songs at the end of an Area. All previous DX and DX+ Areas were retired, with their songs unlocked by default for all players. The Boss Otomodachi roster was refreshed, and the conduction song mechanic was introduced for the first time in the DX series, allowing qualifying players to share a special unlockable song with others. Tour member maximum levels rose to 9,999, a leader slot was added, and a Frames collection system debuted for full top-screen customization.

Other additions included new Break and Slide sound effects, a Splash-themed judgment line design, a damage sound volume setting, expanded timing adjustment with Offset B, the first song revival in maimai history, the introduction of Re:Master charts to the DX series, and a broad difficulty rebalance across existing tracks. The FULL SYNC DX achievement icon was also changed from "FDX" to "FSD."
