Niji to Taiyou (虹と太陽, "Rainbow and Sun") is a samba original composed by GOSH (Susumu Tsukagoshi) with lyrics by Hitomi Terakado, featuring vocalist manami. It was one of the first songs available at maimai's arcade launch on July 11, 2012, commissioned as part of the game's initial drive for genre diversity. GOSH later recalled in the official soundtrack booklet that when the team set out to cover many musical styles, samba fell to him, and the track delivers exactly that: surdo, caixa, cuíca, pandeiro, and agogô percussion layer beneath a bright, danceable melody. The song opens with a distinctive Italian-style count, uno, due, tre, quattro, before settling into a relaxed samba groove. Manami's vocal delivery is notably warm and mid-range; the soundtrack booklet describes her soft mid-tone as giving the active samba beat a gentler, more relaxed character. Lyrically, the song is about resilience in the face of hardship: "七転八倒 それが人生 七回転んで起きればいい" (tumbling and stumbling, that's life; fall seven times, get up eight). It urges the listener to accept sadness and weakness and grow stronger, "like that sun." Over its lifespan across maimai versions, the song's charts have been revised multiple times, gradually raising the difficulty ceiling. The Master chart, originally level 9, has been buffed through successive updates to its current 12+ (constant 12.9). Both the jacket art and in-game video were refreshed for maimai でらっくす, replacing the original animated PV with a still image of the new jacket. Internationally, the song is known as "Turn To The Rainbow" in Asian English regions and "彩虹与太阳" in the Chinese version, 舞萌.
