FESTiVAL

FESTiVAL (祭)2022-09-15

maimai でらっくす FESTiVAL, released on September 15, 2022, is the fourth entry in the DX series and frame-named after a celebratory festival theme (祭). It debuts several significant chart-play innovations while expanding the song library past the 1,000-track milestone. The note system received the deepest overhaul since DX: EX Break notes (guaranteeing Critical Perfect on hit) and Break Holds/Break Slides appeared for the first time, turning sustained holds and slides into precision-dependent scoring notes. Slide paths were freed from prior constraints, allowing sharp multi-corner turns, curved edge-hugging trajectories, and overlapping path lines within a single slide. To help players navigate the enormous song catalogue, the version introduced a new song recommendation system with three categories alongside a returning Random Select feature that works within any filtered folder, plus a new Rank grouping option and a Quick Retry function in Freedom Mode.

The visual theme embraces a bright, festival-inspired palette with the Raz character serving as the system-voice narrator. Several quality-of-life system changes arrived with this version: the answer-sound volume scale was expanded from 1–5 to 1–10, and entirely new tap success sounds, break judgement sounds, and slide sounds were added as player-customizable options. Otomodachi Battle was made permanently available outside seasonal windows. Infinite Areas were unlocked by default, with all songs acting as area bonuses at a reduced 1 km bonus, and previously area-locked tour members became permanently selectable. The random dan system was refreshed, adding EXPERT 超上級, enabling Re:MASTER charts in MASTER-level draws, and introducing a new ultimate rank, 裏皆伝 (Ura Kaiden). The in-game resolution moved to 1920×1080 FHD, and an AP+ achievement counter was added.
