Destiny Runner is an instrumental Touhou Project arrange track by the doujin circle artist さわわ (Sawawa), reimagining "亡き王女の為のセプテット" (Septette for the Dead Princess), the Stage 6 boss theme of Remilia Scarlet from 東方紅魔郷 ～ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. Where ZUN's original carries a melancholy, regal atmosphere befitting a vampire princess, Sawawa's arrangement injects a relentless forward drive at 190 BPM, trading the original's waltz-like phrasing for a straight-ahead, high-energy sound built on crisp synth leads and rapid-fire percussion. The track originally appeared on Sawawa's 2013 album "東方疾走響" (Touhou Soussou Kyō), distributed at the 10th Hakurei Shrine Reitaisai. It first crossed into rhythm-game territory as a playable song on SEGA's オンゲキ (ONGEKI) in 2018, where it featured Remilia Scarlet as the opposing boss character. The maimai でらっくす FESTiVAL version arrived on October 21, 2022 (JP/INTL/USA), with later regional releases in Asia (February 2023) and China (January 2024). In the maimai DX chart set, the MASTER difficulty, designed by 小鳥遊さん (Takanashi-san), packs 985 notes into a level 13+ frame, making heavy use of Slide notes and dense Break clusters to mirror the arrangement's ceaseless momentum. (The chart briefly held level 14 during the BUDDiES version cycle before reverting to 13+ in PRiSM.) The EXPERT chart, designed by 翠楼屋 (Suirouya), offers a preparatory challenge at level 11 with 667 notes. Both charts are classified under the 東方Project in-game genre.
