"Turn around" is an instrumental hard trance techno track by Clean Tears, originally produced for SEGA's digital-real attraction HALFPIPE TOKYO at the Tokyo Joypolis indoor theme park. The song was later added to maimai PLUS on May 9, 2013, becoming one of the earliest original compositions commissioned for the maimai series through SEGA's in-house attraction synergy. Clean Tears is a doujin music producer active in the Japanese electronic scene, also known for his work under the circle はちみつれもん (Hachimitsu Lemon). His style blends aggressive synthesizer work with melodic trance progressions, and "Turn around" is a prime example, a high-speed, noisy digital beatscape that builds dramatic tension through shifting textures. The track's promotional material for HALFPIPE TOKYO classified it as "Hard Dance," while the official soundtrack booklet describes it as "very hard trance techno" with classical euro-trance sensibilities, punctuated by percussive sound gimmicks, sampled vocal chops, and a bright piano motif. The song entered maimai's arcade catalog during the PLUS era and has persisted through every subsequent version, undergoing several genre reclassifications, initially filed under JOYPOLIS, later moved to ORIGINAL & JOYPOLIS, then ORIGINAL, and finally settled under the generic maimai genre in the DX series. The monochrome cyber-visualizer movie by flapper3, with its simple monotone visuals, reinforces the track's immersive, tunnel-vision energy. In maimai MURASAKi PLUS (August 2017), "Turn around" received an UTAGE (宴) special-chart variant titled "Tako around," designed by the charter 蛸 (Tako). This novelty chart is remembered as a playful, gimmick-heavy alternate take on the original.
