Dreampainter is a maimai original track that debuted in the ORANGE version on October 9, 2014. The song is a collaboration between three artists from different corners of the rhythm-game music scene: Sta (Yasutaka Senoo), who had previously contributed the debut original track Monochrome Rainbow to maimai; tigerlily, a BMS composer and STRLabel-affiliated synthesizer specialist; and DOT96, a beatmaker who handled the rhythm design. The English vocals, written and performed by D.Claire, weave a lyrical theme of hidden faces, denial, and liberation, a dark, introspective monologue set against a mid-tempo electronic backdrop. Sta has described Dreampainter as an orthodox, mid-tempo dark EDM piece, dark velvet in tone, and noted that the collaboration was guided by a single reference image shared with the team. He later remarked on how Dreampainter and Argent symmetry, another song commissioned around the same time, share nearly identical musical frameworks yet project completely opposite moods: one English-language and brooding, the other Japanese-language and sparkling, like a mirror-image reflection of light and shadow. Over its lifetime, the Master chart has undergone notable level adjustments across maimai versions, shifting from 11 in ORANGE up to 13 during FESTiVAL before settling back to 12+ (level constant 12.9) in FESTiVAL PLUS and later revisions. Designed by Jack, the Master chart is heavily Slide-driven with 99 Slide notes out of 469 total, making it a distinct entry in the early DX-era standard chart catalog. The Expert chart was designed by the pseudonymous 某S氏 (Bou S shi).
