Dragoon is an instrumental electro house track produced by Shandy kubota, an alias of the well-known HARDCORE TANO*C artist and UOM RECORDS label head USAO. The song debuted in maimai ORANGE on February 5, 2015, and was originally locked behind a 400 music ticket purchase in the in-game shop. Its name derives from the word for a mounted dragon soldier or cavalryman, and the aggressive, high-energy composition, driven by gritty bass synths at a brisk 175 BPM, was inspired by the composer's childhood memories of a shooting game in which the player rides a blue dragon through the sky, blasting enemies with a rifle. The jacket art and video direction by TOHRU MiTSUHASHi echo that same sense of power and forward motion. Dragoon originated outside the rhythm game world entirely: it was created for SEGA's Tokyo Joypolis attraction HALFPIPE TOKYO before being brought into the maimai song library. Over the years its in-game genre label shifted from JOYPOLIS to ORIGINAL & JOYPOLIS, then to ORIGINAL, and ultimately to the maimai category. The song has accumulated an unusually large number of chart revisions across different maimai versions. The Standard Expert chart began at level 10 and was subsequently adjusted multiple times across ORANGE, PiNK, MURASAKi, and later DX-era updates. A formidable Re:MASTER chart at level 14 (constant 14.5) was added on November 5, 2020 during the Splash season, designed by シチミヘルツ (Shichimi Hertz). In 2025, DX charts, including a Master chart at level 13+ (constant 13.7) designed by Luxizhel, were introduced as part of PRiSM PLUS, initially available through Friend Match Season 23 rewards before a general unlock in January 2026. The song also appears in SEGA's companion rhythm game ONGEKI, where it was unlockable during a limited November 2018 event.
