SPELL MAGIC is a song by Acid Black Cherry, the solo project of yasu, best known as the vocalist of the visual-kei rock band Janne Da Arc. Released as his debut single in 2007, the track was added to maimai PLUS, the first major update to the original maimai arcade game, at its launch on December 13, 2012. Classified under the POPS＆アニメ (Pops & Anime) category, it runs at a brisk 180 BPM and features lyrics that weave feline metaphor and possessiveness into a bold, confrontational narrative about desire and emotional manipulation. SPELL MAGIC became a staple of early maimai's pop selection, appearing on the Chinese version (舞萌) as well. It was ultimately removed from arcade rotation on December 9, 2015, making it unavailable in current maimai DX cabinets. Over the course of its lifespan, the in-game genre shifted several times: originally labeled J-POP in maimai PLUS, it became POPS from maimai GreeN through ORANGE PLUS, and later fell under the POPS＆アニメ umbrella in the DX era. The charts themselves were revised upward across versions, the Master difficulty eventually settled at level 10 with 514 notes, offering a demanding experience for its time. The Expert chart was designed by mai-Star, while the Master chart was handled by ニャイン (Nyain).
