サンバランド (Sambaland) is a samba-infused instrumental track that began life in the BMS (Be-Music Source) scene. Composed by Lime under the alias SAMBA MASTER 佐藤, it was first submitted to the 2012 GENRE-SHUFFLE contest, a competition that challenged creators to blend genres, where it placed 24th with the tongue-in-cheek genre label "YUTTARI KEI SAMBA" (ゆったり系サンバ, or "relaxed-style samba"). The track is a self-remix of Lime's earlier BOF2011 entry Summerland, reworking its melodic foundation into a sunnier, percussive samba arrangement. When the song was selected for inclusion in maimai DX, Lime reportedly created an entirely new remastered version from scratch, making the arcade version a distinct reimagining rather than a direct port. The video was also re-recorded for the occasion, with photography by Dust and editing by 温泉の力. The track debuted on January 10, 2020, initially under the VARIETY genre before being recategorized to GAME & VARIETY. サンバランド also anchors a broader "Sambaland series", three official sequels released across subsequent BMS contests: ダークサンバランド (BOF2013), ホーリーサンバランド (G2R2014), and ハードルネッサンバ (BOFU2015), each reinterpreting the samba template in a different stylistic direction. On the charting side, the song received two full sets of charts. The DX Master chart (level 12+, constant 12.8), designed by 小鳥遊さん, presents a well-rounded challenge typical of mid-tier boss charts in the GAME & VARIETY category. The Standard Master chart (level 13, constant 13.2), designed by はっぴー, is notable for its extreme slide-note emphasis, 201 Slide notes out of 637 total, with only 6 Hold notes, producing a chart that prioritizes continuous sweeping motions over sustained holds. Standard charts were added with the UNiVERSE PLUS update in May 2022, initially gated behind Friend Matching Season 5 rewards before becoming generally available later that year.
