"First Dance" is a composition by 削除 (Sakuzyo), the alias of Japanese composer Mitsuki Yoshida, best known in the rhythm game scene for high-energy, intricately structured electronic tracks. The song was originally created for RADIAL, a landmark multi-disc album released through the Diverse System label to celebrate its 15th anniversary. Between August 2015 and August 2016, Diverse System released one new track per week, 53 in total, and "First Dance" occupies the very first slot of that ambitious cycle, setting the tone for the entire project. In maimai, "First Dance" was added as part of the Diverse System Area (Diverse Systemちほー) in maimai でらっくす UNiVERSE PLUS, debuting on May 13, 2022. Players originally unlocked the song by accumulating 200 km of travel distance within the event area, a callback to the "journey" of Diverse System's 53-week album rollout. Starting with maimai でらっくす FESTiVAL, the track became available by default across all regions. Sakuzyo confirmed on Twitter that the song received subtle refinements for its maimai debut, making the arcade version a slightly remastered incarnation of the original. The jacket art contains a curious detail: the illustration is rotated 180 degrees compared to the original album art, though whether this was intentional or an oversight remains unknown.
