Overview

プリズム△▽リズム (Prism Rhythm) is the theme song of maimai でらっくす PRiSM, the version that launched in September 2024. The track reunites composer Shoichiro Hirata with vocalist Sana, the same duo behind Believe the Rainbow, the ending theme of the preceding FiNALE version. This marks the first time the artists behind one version's ending returned to compose its successor's opening theme, giving PRiSM a sense of musical continuity unusual for the series. The song was also the first original maimai composition available as a default launch track since BREaK! BREaK! BREaK! in Splash PLUS. Beyond its role as a version anthem, プリズム△▽リズム functions as a narrative teaser. Its lyrics reference six of the seven areas in the maimai でらっくす in-game universe, conspicuously omitting the Prism Area itself, and repeatedly call for a "secret key" and describe doors opening one after another. These are direct callbacks to the core loop of KALEIDXSCOPE, a hidden event that would be introduced later in PRiSM's lifecycle. The music video, illustrated by Masako Wada and directed by ツツミヒデアキ, deepens the mystery by introducing Ris, a character from the Prism Area making an early cameo, and showing a gate malfunction with a "LINK ERROR" message, a detail that would resurface at KALEIDXSCOPE's climax. An extended version of the track was first made available via the DiSC-PRiSM- goods campaign soundtrack before the standard-length version appeared in arcades.

Trivia

  • プリズム△▽リズム is the first maimai version theme song not unlocked through a Beginning Area, it was immediately playable from PRiSM's launch day.
  • Shoichiro Hirata and Sana previously collaborated on Believe the Rainbow, the ending theme of maimai DX FiNALE. プリズム△▽リズム marks the first time the same artist duo handled both a predecessor version's ending and its successor's theme song.
  • The lyrics reference six of the seven in-game areas from the maimai でらっくす universe, the Prism Area itself is the only one not mentioned, perhaps to keep it hidden for the KALEIDXSCOPE reveal.
  • The music video features Ris, a character from the Prism Area, marking the first narrative crossover between distinct areas in maimai's in-game universe.
  • The video also shows a gate displaying 'LINK ERROR' for the first time, a visual cue that would become significant during the later stages of the KALEIDXSCOPE event.
  • An extended version (Long Ver.) was pre-released on the DiSC-PRiSM- goods campaign soundtrack, later also appearing on the maimai DX Best Album Area 3.
  • The standard charts were added in PRiSM PLUS (July 2025) and were initially unlockable by completing the Gate of Hope (希望の扉) course in KALEIDXSCOPE. From CiRCLE PLUS onward they became available by default.
  • The standard MASTER chart, designed by 譜面-100号, is played as the first song in the KALEIDXSCOPE course. It is known for characteristically dense and tricky slide placements, including a pre-chorus section with triple slide streams that repeat in four sets.
  • The DX MASTER chart was designed by みそかつ侍 (Misokatsu Samurai) and features 773 total notes, while the DX EXPERT chart by アマリリス (Amaryllis) contains 52 Break notes, a notably high count for its level.
