"Last Samurai" is a maimai original composition by Street, a producer known primarily from the BMS (Be-Music Source) scene. Arriving in maimai でらっくす Splash PLUS on June 25, 2021, it immediately claimed a unique distinction: at 57 BPM, it became the single slowest-tempo song in the entire maimai series at the time of release, undercutting even "四月の雨" (April Rain) at 79 BPM. Street had previously contributed to maimai with "Sakura Fubuki," but "Last Samurai" marked their first original song written directly for the game rather than adapted from a BMS work. The track's title and aesthetic evoke a cinematic, atmospheric take on a samurai theme, deliberate and weighty, matching its glacial tempo. The accompanying movie, produced by MiRA, draws visual inspiration from the game's Takamagahara Area (高天原ちほー), a region themed around Japanese mythology. In-game flavor text tells a story of the heavenly realm Takamagahara, the goddess Ōhime, and a reluctant young god named Nigi sent to quell demons in the mortal world, framing "Last Samurai" as part of a larger narrative arc within the Splash PLUS era. Originally gated behind the Takamagahara Area's distance-based unlock system (requiring 170 km of travel), the song later became available by default starting with maimai でらっくす UNiVERSE PLUS (March 24, 2022). A notable difficulty revision saw its Basic chart drop from level 5 to level 4 at the same time, reflecting SEGA's ongoing chart rebalancing.
