BLACK SWAN is an instrumental original composition by ぺのれり (penoreri, the alias of composer Keita Miyoshi) that debuted in maimai DX UNiVERSE on October 29, 2021. Though penoreri had previously appeared in the franchise with Desperado Waltz for the standard (non-DX) maimai series, BLACK SWAN marks their first song written specifically for a maimai DX title. The title invokes the black swan theory, a metaphor for a rare, high-impact event that rewrites prior assumptions, and the track's brisk 201 BPM, driving percussion, and layered orchestral textures deliver a tense, cinematic atmosphere that matches that conceptual weight.

BLACK SWAN was originally locked behind the Heaven Area 4 (天界ちほー4) Perfect Challenge, requiring 540 km of accumulated distance before it could be played. It became available by default starting with maimai DX FESTiVAL. Among the unlockable songs in its area, BLACK SWAN stands out as the only one accompanied by a dedicated music video, animated by Hanamori Hiro with illustrations by 眠介 (Nemusuke). An extended arrangement, BLACK SWAN -plus noir-, was later released on the PERFECT CHALLENGE DiSC PLUS -UNiVERSE- mini-soundtrack and later collected on the maimai DX Best Album Area 2 compilation, offering a longer take on the composition for dedicated listeners.
