White Traveling Girl traces its roots to 東方天空璋 ～ Hidden Star in Four Seasons, the 2017 Touhou Project entry, where the original melody 幻想のホワイトトラベラー (Gensō no White Traveler) served as the Stage 4 theme. The doujin circle A-One produced this arrangement with ELEMENTAS handling the arrangement, Yassie writing lyrics, and aki on vocals. The track first appeared on the 2017 compilation 東方compilation CD 萃星霜, where a typographical quirk rendered the title as "White Travering Girl" on the album, a detail occasionally noted by fans. In maimai, White Traveling Girl arrived with the FiNALE update on February 22, 2019. Early players saw a moving illustration of Narumi Yatadera, the Hidden Star in Four Seasons character associated with the stage, as the background video, but this was swapped for a static jacket display from maimai でらっくす onward. The song also crossed over to SEGA's CHUNITHM AMAZON PLUS, where it was initially time-limited during a 東方天空璋 MAP event from May to June 2019 before becoming a standard unlockable.
