天国と地獄 -言ノ葉リンネ- (Tengoku to Jigoku -Kotonoha Rinne-) is a song from the Kotonoha Project (言ノ葉プロジェクト), a narrative-driven multimedia series centered on a fictional world of words and stories. It serves as the second half of Chapter 5 in the project's first season, following the first-part chapter song 相思創愛 (Sōshi Sōai). The song was added to maimai as part of the MURASAKi PLUS update in June 2017 and later appeared in CHUNITHM AIR PLUS as a cross-over track. The track is a duet between two well-known figures from the Vocaloid-adjacent scene: Kashitaro Ito (伊東歌詞太郎) and Lon (ろん), both popular utaite (cover singers) who also contribute original work. Composition, arrangement, and lyrics were handled by rerulili (れるりり), the producer best known for the viral Vocaloid hit 千本桜 (Senbonzakura). The creative team also includes illustrator Bachiko (バチ子) and video director Hideaki Tsutsumi (ツツミヒデアキ), with mastering by kagomeP. A separate VOCALOID version of the song, voiced by Hatsune Miku and GUMI, appears on rerulili's album 青春症候群 (Seishun Shoukougun), while the full-length version is included on the compilation 言ノ葉プロジェクト ～詠唱集～. The title references Jacques Offenbach's operetta "Orpheus in the Underworld" (Orphée aux enfers), popularly known in Japan as 天国と地獄 (Heaven and Hell). The suffix -言ノ葉リンネ- (Kotonoha Rinne, meaning "Kotonoha Reincarnation") was appended to distinguish this work from other compositions sharing the name. Thematically and lyrically, the song explores tension between opposites, heaven and hell, imperfect emotions and pure devotion, set to a driving rock arrangement at 138 BPM that complements the dual-vocal interplay. In maimai, the song underwent several level adjustments across the DX-era updates.
