Sun Dance is a sun-drenched summer party track composed by veteran Sega sound creator Hiroshi Kawaguchi, working under the alias Hiro「Crackin'DJ」. The song originally appeared in the 2001 Sega Hitmaker arcade game Crackin'DJ Part 2, a DJ-simulation rhythm game where players scratched and mixed records. Over a decade later, the track was revived as one of the launch titles for the very first maimai arcade cabinet on July 11, 2012, making it one of the oldest continuously present songs in the series. At a relaxed 102 BPM, Sun Dance rides a straightforward four-on-the-floor beat layered with DJ scratches, synth stabs, and shouted call-and-response vocals. Its lyrics, simple English phrases like "Let's get this party started" and "Out in the sun", paint a feel-good picture of beachside dancing from sunup to sundown. The track's maimai tenure has been unusually fluid in terms of classification: over the years it has been relabeled as ORIGINAL, ANIME & GAME, GAME, SEGA, back to ORIGINAL, and finally GAME & VARIETY, reflecting the game's shifting genre taxonomy. With the transition to maimai でらっくす, the song received a new jacket illustration and its original animated background video was replaced with a static jacket display.
