Its in-game genre classification has changed several times across maimai versions, starting as GAME/ANIME, shifting to GAME, then SEGA, briefly ORIGINAL during the early でらっくす era, and finally settling into GAME & VARIETY, a history that reflects the game's own evolving taxonomy. The background video that plays during the chart is actual gameplay footage from the Orange Roofs Act 1 stage in Sonic Generations.
