SAKURAスキップ is the opening theme song for the anime adaptation of NEW GAME!, a slice-of-life manga following a young video-game character designer entering the industry. The track is performed by fourfolium, a voice-actor unit whose members, Yuki Takada (Aoba Suzukaze), Megumi Yamaguchi (Hifumi Takimoto), Megumi Toda (Hajime Shinoda), and Ayumi Takeo (Yun Iijima), play the show's main characters. The song was composed and arranged by Kosuke Okui under his F.M.F alias, with lyrics by KOCHO, and features a full live band including guitarist a2c (MintJam), bassist Rei Kudo, drummer Yuu "masshoi" Yamauchi, and a four-piece brass section. In maimai, SAKURAスキップ was added at the launch of MURASAKi PLUS (June 22, 2017) and appeared in both the standard arcade series and the DX revision. Both the Expert and Master charts were designed by はっぴー, who contributed a 10+ Master chart dense with Slide notes (103 of 492 total) that contrasts with the more evenly distributed Expert chart. The in-game background plays footage from the anime's opening sequence. Due to licensing restrictions, SAKURAスキップ was never made available on maimai cabinets outside Japan, and it was removed from Japanese arcades on January 23, 2020. The maimai version uses a 1:30 opening cut, shorter than the full 2:27 version heard in CHUNITHM and オンゲキ.
