Overview

conflict is a landmark collaboration between two pillars of the Japanese doujin/rhythm-game scene: siromaru (Ryo Sakata) and cranky (Hiroshi Watanabe). Originally created for the BMS (Be-Music Source) song contest THE BMS OF FIGHTERS 2011, subtitled "Intersection of conflict", the track took first place with a score that was the highest in BOF history at the time. Its BMS genre tag, HARMONIC SCHRANZ, hints at the track's signature blend of aggressive, distorted synth leads and harmonically rich chord progressions. The version that appears in maimai is a slightly shortened arrangement (2:16) that trims some bars in the bridge compared to the full-length original. The vocal, performed by Pico*, is delivered in a constructed fictional language, only the parenthetical English phrases such as "A man born to fight" and "Let battle commence!" are in actual English, lending the song an epic, otherworldly tone. The video, produced by iimo, was specifically remade for maimai to accommodate the game's rounded screen. In maimai, conflict debuted on MURASAKi (February 2017) with Standard charts across all five difficulties. The Standard Expert chart was designed by Techno Kitchen and the Standard Master chart by rioN, the latter originally released as level 12+ and later raised to level 14 through version updates, making it one of the more formidable Standard Master charts in the game. DX charts were added at the launch of maimai でらっくす (July 2019), with the DX Expert designed by 華火職人 (Kanon Oguni) and the DX Master by 小鳥遊さん (Takanashi-san). The DX Master chart, at level 13 with a constant of 13.5, makes heavy use of Touch notes (175 out of 900 total), creating a distinct play feel from the Standard version.
