プナイプナイせんそう (Punai Punai War) is an energetic BMS (Be-Music Source) track by composer and illustrator 立秋 (Rissyuu), featuring vocals by ちょこ (Choko). It was originally created for the G2R2018 Climax BMS contest, where it finished 11th overall, and belongs to a series built around a playful nonsense-word motif. The series began with プナイプナイたいそう (Punai Punai Exercise) from BOF2017 and continued with プナイプナイげんそう～プナイプナイinワンダーランド～ from the BOXFV contest. At 271 BPM, the song is unrelentingly fast, a tempo chosen deliberately for its goroawase (numerical wordplay) reading of "punai" (2→pu, 7→na, 1→i). This wordplay is a signature trait shared by every entry in the series, and the number 271 recurs throughout the song's video. Lyrically, the track narrates a whimsical battle between humans and multiplying Punai Punai creatures, punctuated by infectious cries of "プナイプナ～イ!" and rhythmic call-and-response sections. プナイプナイせんそう arrived in maimai でらっくす on January 10, 2020 in Japan and March 18, 2020 in Asia. For its maimai debut, the music video was reworked to replace the original's general video game homages with references exclusive to SEGA properties, Space Channel 5, Quartet, Fantasy Zone, Sonic CD, Altered Beast, and Phantasy Star Online among them, creating a uniquely SEGA-flavored visual experience on the cabinet. The song also appears in other rhythm games including Muse Dash and Lanota. On the charting side, the Master chart (designed by シチミヘルツ / Shichimi hertz) is a dense 13+ layout with 803 notes and an unusually high count of Slide and Touch notes, matching the song's frantic energy.
