Mikan no Uta (みかんのうた) is a cover of SEX MACHINEGUNS' 1999 single, included in maimai ORANGE at the arcade version's launch on September 18, 2014. The song is a relentlessly energetic hard-rock homage to mikan (mandarin oranges) from Ehime Prefecture, the hometown of vocalist and frontman ANCHANG, who wrote both the music and lyrics. At a breakneck BPM of 288, the track pairs thrash-metal riffing with deadpan, food-obsessed lyrics that name-drop ポンジュース (Pom Juice), Ehime Beverage's flagship citrus drink. The maimai cover was handled by 譜面ボーイズ (Score Boys), the same session group responsible for the game's cover of YATTA!. The song's Master chart (level 12, designed by はっぴー) is the highest-difficulty standard chart in the set and stands out in maimai history as the first level-12 Master chart ever removed from the arcade series. Mikan no Uta was delisted on June 22, 2017, during the transition from maimai MURASAKi to maimai MURASAKi PLUS, making it inaccessible on modern cabinets. Prior to its maimai appearance, the song had also appeared in Taiko no Tatsujin 10 (Bandai Namco), where it ran at a slightly lower BPM of 286. The in-game genre was originally labeled POPS under maimai ORANGE and ORANGE PLUS, and was reclassified as POPS & ANIME from maimai PiNK onward.
