アイドル (Idol) is a song by Japanese musical duo YOASOBI, serving as the opening theme for the first season of the anime adaptation of Aka Akasaka's manga 【推しの子】 (Oshi no Ko). True to YOASOBI's signature creative process, the lyrics were adapted from a short novel titled "45510" written by Akasaka himself specifically for this purpose, a story about the hidden struggles and manufactured persona of a pop idol. Composed and produced by Ayase with vocal performance by ikura, the track also features shout vocals from the otaku call-and-response group REAL AKIBA BOYZ, whose interjections mirror the diegetic concert reactions depicted in the source material. Released as a single in 2023, アイドル became one of YOASOBI's most commercially successful songs, topping streaming charts in Japan and drawing global attention to both the duo and the Oshi no Ko franchise. It arrived in maimai DX BUDDiES PLUS on March 21, 2024 simultaneously in Japan, international regions, and China, with a full five-difficulty set that included a Re:MASTER chart from day one. The maimai version uses a distinctive jacket illustration, not YOASOBI's THE BOOK 3 album art, nor the anime key visual, but art originally created for the Sega title サンバDEアミーゴ：パーティーセントラル. Sega also replaced the standard title logo with an original design, differentiating the maimai presentation from other rhythm game appearances such as CHUNITHM (where the jacket is a color-inverted variant). On the gameplay side, the track's BPM shifts, dropping from 166 to 150 during the line "完全なアイ" (kanzen na ai) before climbing back, add a subtle rhythmic curve that chart designers built into their note layouts, particularly in the Master and Re:Master difficulties.
